Folio, 3 leaves, 34 pages, and 4 stipple-engraved hand-coloured plates by J. Hopwood from drawings by T. Baxter, with 4 lettered outline plates. Paper a little browned, decreasing hole in outer fore-edge margin almost throughout restored with tissue, fore- and lower edges of one outline plate chipped and soiled and repaired from behind. Modern green cloth, original printed upper wrapper (dust-soiled and edges repaired on the back) bound in.
FIRST EDITION, and a coloured copy, the plates being the first coloured illustrations of the anatomy of the nose and throat to be published. The description of the plates occupies the first 14 pages, and the Description of the Mouth, Nose, Larynx and Pharynx, comprising pp. 15–34, was written by the distinguished anatomist and surgeon Sir William Lawrence. This fine atlas displays “an accurate anatomical description of the parts…” (Stevenson & Guthrie, History of Oto-Laryngology).
