FIRST EDITION. The study of the theory of the origin of ore deposits was greatly stimulated by A.G. Werner’s Neue Theorie von der Entstehung der Gänge (1791), which better enabled miners to predict where ore beds might occur. The present work is a notable but little-known elaboration of Werner’s theories. Schmidt, who was director of mines at Bieber, explains the shifting or dislocation of mineral veins within several strata and other phenomena relating to the paragenesis of minerals.
