Including the fine woodcut portrait of the author on †6v (recto blank), and woodcuts of surgical instruments in the text. Title within architectural woodcut border, woodcut initials. Contemporary vellum. Pale stain in fore-edge margin with slight chipping to fore-edge of title, blank corner torn from D3, otherwise a nice copy. With the bookplate of Piergiorgio Borio. Presentation copy, inscribed on the title-page “Auctoris donum” and with a faded signature in the upper margin.
FIRST EDITION of Magni’s treatise on the use of the cautery and the practice of cauterising. A second edition appeared in 1618 which is occasionally found together with his book on bloodletting.
