FIRST EDITION. G&M 3252: “Cheyne’s important book deals mainly with the lesions of croup.” Four of the plates are from drawings by Charles Bell; the others are unsigned. This book is actually a second edition of his essay first published in 1801 as part of his Essays on the diseases of children, under title “Of cynanche trachealis or croup”, which consisted of only 72 pages and 5 plates, but is so greatly enlarged and revised as to constitute a new work.
