It opens with a chapter on ‘exploration of the abdomen’ reminding one of the diagnostic teaching of Laënnec. The reports of ovarian tumors and the frequently attendant ‘ovarian dropsy’ are exceptionally able. Another good section is devoted to ‘acephalocyst hydatids’ or echinococcus cysts, which Bright saw frequently in London and in his travels, which included Iceland, where the disease in endemic today” (Long, History of pathology, p. 160).
