London: Harrison and Sons,1892

Original green pebbled cloth (not quite matching, a few small nicks in spine of vol. 1, spine of vol. 2 neatly repaired). Two bookplates in vol. 1 of the University of London, one a presentation label from Lady Bowman in 1893, also their blindstamp on the title and elsewhere; armorial bookplate in vol. 2 of Thomas H. Bickerton of Liverpool, a subscriber, bookplate in both volumes of Richard J. Bennett.
FIRST EDITION. Bowman's most substantial publication, reprinting his entire literary output, with some papers published here for the first time. Bowman himself took an active part in the production, revising the proofs and adding notes. It includes his classic paper On the structure and use of the Malpighian bodies of the kidney (G&M 1231), his papers on striated muscle (G&M 542), and his numerous and important papers on ophthalmology and ophthalmic surgery (see G&M 1505, etc.). When originally published, Bowman's papers were distributed over many different journals and books, and this is therefore a particularly valuable collection.
