FIRST EDITION IN ENGLISH, second issue. “Bergman here discusses the great utility of chemistry to mankind, covering medicine, economics, industry, metallurgy, manufactures, pyrotechny, dyeing, salts, earths, gases, and other subjects. Duveen describes the second issue (London: J. Murray, 1784), identical to the first except for the reset title-page, which he found after searching diligently for twenty-five years, just in time to include in the addenda of his catalogue. The first issue is even rarer” (Neville). The translation was by Franz Xavier Schwediauer assisted by Jeremy Bentham. Cole 99 (first issue). Duveen p. 640, describing it as “very rare”.
