Half-titles, different engraved vignette on each title. Some foxing throughout, occasionally heavy, two tears in L6 vol. 3 unprofessionally repaired partially obscuring some letters. Contemporary Spanish(?) tree sheep, black borders on sides, brown and green morocco labels on spines, marbled endpapers, red edges.
FIRST EDITION, Cole’s edition B, the “inferior” edition with the portrait and the title vignettes reversed and unsigned. “One of the very latest and at the same time the best text books based on the phlogiston theory by one of the most distinguished eighteenth century French chemists” (Duveen).
