Price £ GBP 550.00

8vo, 39 pages, errata slip. Stitched as issued, uncut. Title slightly dust-soiled and with a tiny tear in the fore-edge repaired, last leaf a little creased, but a fine copy.

FIRST EDITION. Published early in 1825, this is one of the first books on railways. Sylvester’s Report was commissioned by the committee of the Liverpool & Manchester company, and pays close attention to the physical benefits of conveyance by rails rather than by canals, with power supplied by steam engines rather than by horses. It is a carefully calculated advocation for steam-powered railways. Skempton 1484.
